Random Mustering Rules for Heroclix Solo Wargaming

The following is the first of three optional rules that have been designed to work with the Solo Wargaming Rules for Heroclix posted in January on Solo Nexus. The next two optional rules will be posted on Solo Nexus in March and April. All three optional rules will be in effect during my November 2011 Solo Tabletop Gaming Appreciation Month campaign, a multi-battle, super-powered war played out on a real map of NYC.

Randomized Mustering Rules (optional)
Heroes and villains all heed the call to battle, but not necessarily at the same time. To determine when characters enter their Starting Areas and take their first turns, follow these steps:
  1. After building the forces, set up the battlefield, but do not place characters in their Starting Areas.
  2. Combine into a single deck ALL of the Character Cards representing the characters on each force. If a character on a force does not have a card, use a proxy to represent it. Shuffle the deck well.
  3. Place the character represented by the top card of the deck in its Starting Area and remove its card from the top of the deck.
  4. If the next top card of the deck represents a character from the same force as the character represented by the previous Character Card, return to Step 3. If the next top card of the deck does NOT represent a character from the same force as the character represented by the previous Character Card, proceed to Step 5.
  5. The force that has just added one or more characters to its Starting Area may no longer add characters to its Starting Area. The solo player rolls the Deployment Dice for that force and takes its turn as per standard rules with whatever friendly characters have made it onto the battlefield.
  6. If there are Character Cards left in the deck, return to Step 3. If there are no more Character Cards left in the deck, play proceeds as normal with alternating turns.
NOTE: If more than two opposing forces are participating in the battle, a fair, orderly turn rotation may not be possible until after the Character Card deck has been exhausted.
